Julieta Venegas

A tiny wisp of a woman and a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, keyboard, accordion) who has been playing since age eight, Tijuana native Julieta Venegas has been one of the top names in Latin alternative music since the late '90s. She broadened her audience considerably both north and south of the border with the heavily acclaimed Si (2003) and Limon y Sal (2006); the latter netted the former telenovela star a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. Venegas returned last year with Otra Cosa (Sony Music Latin), a more subdued album of bewitching, ethereal melodies that, when she swept through House of Blues's Bronze Peacock Room in April, reminded this Anglo listener of Kate Bush and Suzanne Vega.
