Nobunny

Want to entrust your Wednesday night to a sludge of cassette-beholden garage bands hawking their "sleazy art" — especially if they're led by a freak in a bunny mask who makes the late Jay Reatard look like one of the Shins? Of course you do. For better or worse, Justin Champlin has been making a hissy, lo-fi racket as the character Nobunny for nearly a decade. His cheap, cheaply recorded punk melodies recall things like the Nuggets compilations and Ween. And he's even been a good sport about the indie-subgenre name game no one wants to play. Call him "bubble punk" or "rhythm and screws" if you want — just get out there and mess shit up.
