R. Kelly: Trapped in the Closet

R. Kelly: To the casual music fan, the name brings up either an inspirational song that propelled Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny to basketball success or an unfortunate legal incident involving urine. That's too bad, because his video hip-hop opera Trapped in the Closet is so good it deserves to be beamed out into space as a message to possible alien visitors. The story follows a man named Sylvester, whose one-night-stand with a pastor's wife eventually entangles him in a web of sexual lies and games that changes his life forever. Plus, there's an asthmatic stripping dwarf in it because … well, why wouldn't there be? There's so much sex going on you need a chart just to keep who's banging who straight (we suggest you print one out on Wikipedia to bring with you, by the way). Kelly plays his role with such stony seriousness that you can't help but admire his sincerity. Kelly has released 33 chapters of the story with more to come this fall from IFC, and each one has an accompanying music video that Alamo Drafthouse is presenting in its entirety complete with sing-along subtitles.
