The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston presents “More Real than Reality Itself,” videos from four highly original artists, each with a point of view that intrigues with individuality. Laure Prouvost uses rapid-fire, short-form works (It, Heat, Hit and How to Make Money Religiously) to suggest a reasonable narrative, then pulls the rug from under our feet. Dean Daderko, curator at CAMH, says, “Her movies read like video ransom notes.” Andrea Geyer’s Insistence and Three Chants Modern explore women as a driving force in the United States, employing dance to aid interpretation. Camille Henrot’s video Grosse Fatigue uses Internet clips and footage Henrot shot in the Smithsonian as a Fellow; Daderko says, “Her video attempts to explain the creation of the universe.” A.L. Steiner’s multi-channel installation More Real than Reality Itself exposes “history” as unstable, subjective and mutable. Daderko adds, “A.L. Steiner wants to save the earth from its ultimate destruction.”
