Playboy of the Western World

The students at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance tackle John Millington Synge’s Playboy of the Western World. “It’s a difficult play,” says director Carolyn Houston Boone, citing poetic dialogue and the need for Irish accents. Set in Ireland, Playboy is the story of a young man who arrives in a small town. When the story of his dark past gets around, he’s made into a folk hero by the townsfolk. Filled with dark comedy and Irish wit, Playboy examines the idea of bad as good.
