Come Party With Rocks Off and Lego Rock Band at Khon's

Next Tuesday over at Khon's (2808 Milam), Rocks Off is throwing a free Christmas party for Houston, with our new copy of Lego Rock Band. You do remember the drunken scene at our Beatles: Rock Band shindig in September at Coffee Groundz, right? We wish we did, but we're pretty sure that they may have lost and scarred a few customers that night. So now we present to you Rocks Off's Rock Band Christmas Throwdown.

Lego Rock Band is another edition of the popular rock and roll videogame, except this one features blocky doll-like versions of your favorite musicians from yesterday and today. Quite honestly, it was the early screenshot of a Lego-ized Iggy Pop that sold us on the game, because any game that would allow us to sing and play "The Passenger" is manna from heaven... er, Detroit. The Lego Queen with Freddie Mercury sporting his famous late-period moustache was just swishy icing on the cake. Two predictable Queen tracks are in the game: "We Are The Champions" and "We Will Rock You."

The game straddles the line between kid-friendly and adult-friendly jams, with the soundtrack including everything from songs like T. Rex's "Ride a White Swan" to Vampire Weekend's "A-Punk". Most interestingly is the inclusion of the pub-rock classic "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)" by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. We haven't heard that song since it was in 1997's mantastic The Full Monty.

The party begins next Tuesday around 7 p.m. at the Midtown coffeehouse (which also serves alcohol, FYI). We will be giving away special edition Rocks Off T-shirts, concert tickets and just generally being the coolest music blog in town. The rest is up to you guys, Houston. Let's party!
