Friday is traditionally the day the media jettisons its more unpleasant stories, similar to the way the Millennium Falcon escaped that Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back ("...We'll jut float away with the rest of the trash"). Other Friday afternoons the news is just odd, but either way there's always a point where you look up at the sky and say, "Can this week be over already?"
... And here we are. This little anecdote comes to us from Woodlands native and all-around swell fellow Hayes Carll. The KMAG YOYO troubador, last seen around these parts rubbing shoulders with Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Dwight Yoakam at CCA's Texas Concert for Conservation in May, posted this rather verse-like update on his Facebook page a couple of hours ago.
Somehow a rumor was started that I had checked myself in to a mental institution in Wyoming last night. That was repeated on satellite radio and my phone proceeded to blow up with friends and well-wishers making sure I was OK.
I want to let everyone know that there is no truth to this rumor. I am on a family vacation in Florida, not a mental hospital in Wyoming.
And while one may ultimately lead to the other...
I seem to be fine at the moment.
Thanks for all the concern.
Hayes
Devilish as ever, Carll concluded his update with a link to the song "Institution" by cheeky Austin roots-rockers the Dedringers, who sadly seem to have broken up. Nonetheless, we imagine you might be able to ask about his well-being and general mental condition when Carll plays two sets at McGonigel's Mucky Duck a week from Saturday night. Or he might just tell you.
Hope you all enjoy the weekend. Carll sounds like he already is.
