Scott Miller's new album, For Crying Out Loud, finds Miller still rocking, but often in a folky, more Appalachian approach than on previous records. Working with Nashville vet Michael Webb, Miller has put together a rocking album that stays true to his mostly rural musical roots. Of course, with Miller, the line between rural music and garage is a thin, faded demarcation at best.

Miller has a track record of dropping wish-I'd-written-that lines and he doesn't disappoint here, with lines like "The dollar is weak, but it's stronger than me." There's hardly a song on For Crying Out Loud that doesn't have at least one head-snapper in it.

How big has Miller gotten in the Americana world? Big enough for For Crying Out Loud to knock Steve Earle's Townes out of the No. 1 slot on the weekly Freeform Americana radio charts. Like he sings, "he's twice as mean as a boilermaker with amphetamines."
