Upcoming Houston Food Events: How You Can Supersize Oktoberfest

In honor of Oktoberfest, The Hay Merchant, 1100 Westheimer, will be offering 25-ounce Hay Merchant Oktoberfest mugs for $25 each. Get one starting Saturday, September 19, through Sunday, October 4, and the brew bar will fill the mug with any Oktoberfest beer on tap for only $4. Note: You can only get two fills per day, but that’s just all the more reason to keep going back!

The Tasting Room CityCentre, 818 Town and Country, will be hosting a Piedmont Wine Dinner on Wednesday, September 23, from 7 to 10 p.m. For $79 per person (plus tax and tip), enjoy a multi-course feast of rustic Italian dishes that pair perfectly with the Barbera, Pinot Noir and vintage Barolo wines of Ghisolfi. By reservation only. Purchase tickets in advance, as limited seats are available.

On Thursday, September 24, Glitter Karaoke, 2621 Milam, will be hosting its beloved Thursday night POP-UP, this time with chef Michael Vigo of Compass Group. Hit the bar starting at 8 p.m. to taste Vigo’s “Havana Nights”-themed menu, which features a Cuban sandwich, braised pork mofongo and a raspberry chocolate "Señorita” dessert.

Hotel Derek
, 2525 West Loop South, will be opening up its exclusive SPLASH Pool and Movie Wall to locals for a little "float and flick" that includes a full sampling of Revolve Kitchen + Bar's summer menu, fruity cocktails and the very best local craft beers. September's featured film, Dirty Dancing, will be shown on Friday, September 25. The event will offer an opportunity for hotel guests and locals to unwind and cool off in the gorgeous pool and, when the sun sets, watch a classic film on the Texas-size movie wall. Tickets are $25 and include admission for two, complimentary gourmet popcorn, two complimentary Revolve Kitchen + Bar signature drinks, complimentary self-parking and access to SPLASH with towel service starting at 5 p.m. RSVP to [email protected] or 713-297-4327 to secure your spot.

The very special Houston Taste of the Nation event will be held on Tuesday, September 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Corinthian, 202 Fannin. More than 40 of Houston's hottest chefs and mixologists will donate their time, talent and passion with one goal in mind: to raise the critical funds needed to end childhood hunger in America. In addition to delicious food, fine wines, local craft beers and premium spirits, guests will also enjoy a premium silent auction and the opportunity to network with the region's tastemakers and trendsetters. General admission ($125) and VIP ($200) tickets are available for purchase.

On Wednesday, September 30, enjoy a Scarpetta Wine Dinner at Backstreet Cafe, 1103 South Shepherd. Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey, one of the brilliant minds behind Boulder, Colorado, restaurant Frasca Food & Wine, will be joining the Backstreet team as they prepare a five-course feast plus welcome reception. Pairings include scallop crudo with ’13 Scarpetta Sauvignon Blanc and roasted pork belly stuffed with ground pork sausage with NV Scarpetta “Timido” Vino Spumante Brut Rosé. Cost is $95 per person, plus tax and gratuity. For reservations, email [email protected].
