Six Ping Opens Fourth Outpost in Saigon Houston Plaza

Six Ping Bakery, the popular Chinese bakery known for its fun-shaped Super Kawaii breads and playful cartoon character cakes, has opened a fourth location in Saigon Houston Plaza (10613 Bellaire) near the corner of Wilcrest and Bellaire.

It’s a testament to the bakery’s popularity and domination of the Chinese bakery market because all the locations are within a 1.5 mile radius of the new one. The smallest and oldest location sits in the same plaza as the Mala Sichuan Bistro, near the corner of Bellaire and Ranchester. The second location opened in the Viet Hoa Market strip mall off Beltway 8 at Beechnut. The third location opened in Dun Huang Plaza at Bellaire and Beltway 8.
The layout of the new location is almost an exact replica of the second and third locations, featuring a long window display, a cake display and a pastry display. The kitchen is on site, with everything baked fresh on location. The menu is also largely the same. You’ll still find the Super Kawaii breads here in fun animal shapes that look like pigs' faces and sea creatures. The pricing seems to be holding steady, with almost all breads in the sub-$2 range.
The major difference between this location and the others? The target clientele is Vietnamese. Instead of Chinese-speaking staff, the young twentysomething workers are all native Vietnamese speakers.

“We’ve been open for a few weeks,” one of the girls told me as she walked briskly from the kitchen to the counters, placing cellophane-wrapped breads on the counter displays. “We opened right after Thanksgiving.”
