In other excellent news, Killen's Burgers finally soft-opened this week at 2804 South Main in Pearland. However, don't make the drive to Pearland without checking social media first, as the restaurant still needs some tweaking and isn't consistently open quite yet. Updated 6/3/2016, 2:14 p.m.: Killen's Burgers will open for regular business hours on Monday, June 6.
Georges Bistro, 219 Westheimer, closed at the end of March when the owners decided to return to France. However, someone else has taken over and re-opened the restaurant; in addition to serving French fare, the new menu also boasts Greek and Italian dishes.
A reader tip and this enthusiastic Craigslist employment ad tell us that there's a Katy outpost of Peter Chang China Grill now open at 1315 West Grand Parkway South.
Houston favorite BB's Cafe has opened its Pearland location at 9719 West Broadway, where you'll find the po'boys and seafood that inner loopers have come to adore in The Heights. Furthermore, you never know– you just might find Beyoncé there.
ALDI now has an additional Houston location at 6751 Bissonnet where you can find plenty of ALDI-brand foods that are free of MSG, synthetic dyes and other less-than-healthy additives, plus a full selection of wines, all for a lower price than most grocery stores.
Swamplot's Christine Gerbode says that the Whole Foods Market at 11145 Westheimer has moved across the street to the former Randalls location at 11041 Westheimer. Like some of the other new Whole Foods stores, this one has Whole Foods' house-made beers available on tap or for purchase in growlers, and it also sports an expanded body care shop.
Jaxton's Bistro, a casual Italian- and French-style eatery, is now open at The Boardwalk at Towne Lake, 9955 Barker Cypress in Cypress. Owner Jason Howard is the former maître d' at Tony's, so his specialty is not only great food but top-tier service.
There's a new gourmet popsicle stand in Memorial City Mall at 303 Memorial City Way; Popfancy Pops features unusual flavors such as cucumber elderflower, wild berry cheesecake, creamy avocado and Arnold Palmer.
The Tejas Chocolate Craftory, 200 North Elm in Tomball, is now open on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with coffee, chocolate and barbecue.
Canadian casual fusion eatery Moxie's Grill & Bar is definitely coming to Houston and taking over the former Canyon Cafe spot at 5000 Westheimer. Last year, owner Tom Gaglardi (who also owns the Dallas Stars) told the Dallas Business Journal he was planning a Texas expansion, and it's certainly in the works. The anticipated opening of the Houston Moxie's is next summer.
Also coming soon is Riel, a shareable plates restaurant with a seasonal, local menu from Ryan Lachaine, former sous chef at Reef and Underbelly. The eatery will be in the former House of Te spot at 1927 Fairview; read Alison Cook's full report from the Houston Chronicle for more details.
