We've known for awhile that beloved East End gem
Kitchen 713, 4515 Canal, would eventually close its original restaurant and move to a more central location. That time came suddenly and unexpectedly this week; the original location is now closed, but there's no word yet on the new address. The restaurant had been operating at lunch hours only for a few weeks, supposedly to accommodate renovations, and the owner had also been in a tiff with his landlord over potential alcohol sales at the Canal location. For now, our cravings for shrimp and grits will have to go unsatisfied.
CultureMap's Eric Sandler says that
Brookstreet Bar-B-Que, 2600 Montrose near Westheimer, opened on June 22. The joint will serve all of the standard Texas barbecue staples, as well as sandwiches on Slow Dough buns, beef ribs on Saturdays and the occasional Wagyu brisket special. This isn't the first Brookstreet Bar-B-Que in town, but it's the first location that will cater to inner-Loopers.
Hans Bier Haus, 2523 Quenby,
announced via Facebook that it will serve its last pint on July 15. It's unclear why the 21-year-old beer bar is closing, but management has said that the Haus will go out with a bang, so stay tuned to social media for closing party details.
Italian gelateria
Amorino Gelato announced that it will open a shop at the new River Oaks District, 4444 Westheimer. Its gourmet gelato is served on cones in the shape of a rose, complete with individual petals;

Eater Houston's Amy McCarthy reports that a car crashed through the front windows of
Los Cucos Mexican Cafe's Katy outpost, 5831 Highway Boulevard, this week. Nobody was seriously injured, although
one diner had to take evasive action as the vehicle plowed through the spot where he had been sitting moments before. The restaurant is still open, but if you're planning to visit in the next few weeks, you may want to call ahead in case of repairs.
Christine Gerbode of Swamplot spotted something unusual in a rendering for Sawyer Yards, a luxury strip center at 2313 Edwards: the logo for
B&B Butchers & Restaurant, which is located just six blocks away at 1814 Washington. Although it could be a second location, it seems unlikely, given the proximity of the original, so it's more likely to be a relocation. There's no official word yet from B&B on any moving or expansion plans, but we'll let you know as soon as we know.
Mama Fu's Asian House opens another location on Monday, June 27 at 28818 Cinco Ranch in Katy. The restaurant has a massive expansion plan in the works, including new outposts coming soon for Clear Lake, Kingwood and Westlake.
Finally, an update to an earlier column:
Zelko Bistro, 705 East 11th, is indeed closed, but owners Jamie and Dalia Zelko are
preparing for their new bistro at Evelyn's Park Conservancy, 4400 Bellaire, scheduled to open later this year.
