Things To Do

World’s Tallest Water Coaster Is Now Open at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island

Schlitterbahn Galveston Island's newest ride, MASSIV, the tallest water coaster in the world, is now open for business. We're talking 926 feet of fast-hurtling awesomeness through four uphill sections, an enclosed tunnel section, a state-of-the-art translucent turn and an incredible triple drop finale.

It's also the longest slide at Schlitterbahn Galveston, and it seems to be just one of many records for Shlitterbahn parks nationwide. According to Guinness World Records:

The tallest water coaster is MASSIV at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Water Park (USA), which is 24.86 m (81 ft 6.72 in) tall, and situated in Galveston,Texas, USA, as measured on 16 June 2016.

The tallest water slide is The Verruckt at Schlitterbahn Water Park (USA) in Kansas City, Kansas, USA, measuring 51.38 m (168 ft 7 in) as of 18 April 2014.

As if that weren't enough, the Schlitterbahn parks in Corpus Christi, South Padre Island, New Braunfels, Kansas City and Galveston partnered with facilities all over the world to set a new record. Early in the morning on June 24, thousands of children participated in the event, titled the World's Largest Swimming Lesson™, with the goal of setting yet another Guinness World Record (and teaching the importance of early lessons).

The folks at Schlitterbahn have promised to release an official POV video very soon, but this unofficial video tells the story quite well. Hang on.

And here's the proof: Guinness World Records not only certified MASSIV as the world's tallest water coaster, they also labeled it "officially amazing." The ride was designed and built collaboratively with WhiteWater Attractions, balancing g-forces, ride dynamics and velocities to create an exhilarating ride that's exceptionally tall in a narrow space.
