Harvey-Related Arts Cancellations and Postponements [UPDATED]

Updated, Friday, 3:41 p.m.: With Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey continuing to submerge Houston as the worst storm the city has :30seen in more than a decade, arts events and exhibitions continue to announce cancellations and postponements.

The Inman Gallery (3901 Main) will reopen on Tuesday, September 5.

Space Center Houston plans to reopen on Saturday.

Next week's performance on Wednesday from the Houston Symphony, The Best of John Williams, at The Pavilion in The Woodlands has been canceled. The Pavilion did not receive any physical damage from Hurricane Harvey, but said its focus is on the staff and community that has received devastating flooding. The Best of John Williams performance will be scheduled as part of venue's 2018 schedule.

The Liberty Opry, the live music venue in Liberty, will be closed for all of September with its next show scheduled for October 7.

Art League Houston near Fourth Ward announced that it has sustained significant damage because of flooding and will be postponing its season-opening exhibition, Texas: 1997-2017 by artist Trenton Doyle Hancock, until September 22. Art League School classes and out reach programming, though, will continue as scheduled.

Because of unsafe conditions throughout the city, the final three performances of Sweet Charity at the EaDo Playhouse will start Friday, September 8 with shows following the next two nights.

The Fandemic Tour pop-culture convention scheduled for September 15-17 at NRG Center has been postponed to December 1-3.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will reopen Tuesday, September 5 and offer free admission through Thursday, September 7.

The Annual Gala at the Czech Center Museum, which had already been postponed to September 9 because of Tropical Storm Harvey, will be moved to a later undecided date. "Due to the large amount of Harvey victims, we decided to celebrate on another date," the center said in an email.

The Houston Symphony has canceled the opening of its POPS series, Ella at 100, that was scheduled to take place Friday through Sunday at the Jones Hall for the Perming Arts in Houston's Theater District. Friday morning the orchestra announced it is also canceling its season-opening concert on Saturday, September 9 and Fiesta Sinfonica on September 10.

While the Jones Hall stage and auditorium show no "discernible damage," all levels of the Theater District garages are flooded. Ticket holders will be contacted by the patron services to help with ticket exchanges or ticket donations.

The William Reaves | Sarah Foltz Fine Art gallery will remain closed through Thursday.

The Art League of Houston's headquarters building sustained what it calls "minor damage" in the storm. Its offices will close until Tuesday, September 5 for repairs. Follow updates on Twitter at @ArtLeageHouston or facebook.com/artleaguehouston.

Wednesday afternoon, Houston Ballet announced that due to damage incurred in the storm, its offices will remain closed through Labor Day and its season-opening production of Poetry In Motion — scheduled from September 8-17 — has been canceled. All Academy classes and rehearsals remain closed. Its website is currently down, so the Ballet advises checking its Facebook page for scheduling updates.

Stages Repertory Theater's offices will remain closed through Wednesday, and all performances have been canceled through September 3. The next production will be Always...Patsy Cline, which will resume September 6.

Mercury Houston's Bach and Piazzolla concert, scheduled for Miller Outdoor Theatre on Saturday, has been canceled.

The Advocare Texas Kickoff college-football game between LSU and BYU, originally scheduled for this Saturday at NRG Stadium, has been relocated to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

The Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston will remain closed through Labor Day. The upcoming Brown Bag Gallery talk with Robert Buzzanco, a history professor and scholar of the Vietnam War era, has been rescheduled to September 13.

The Alley Theatre has canceled all remaining performances of Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps, which was scheduled to run through September 3.

The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science is closed through Tuesday. Scheduled programming is canceled and may be made up at a later date.

After the Brazilian Arts Foundation's Brazilian Dance Social was canceled, the foundation will host another event in September.

The Piano Guys show at Revention Music Center last Friday night has been postponed with plans for a new date underway.

The Illustration Show at the Insomnia Lounge has been moved to Saturday, September 2.

The Houston Center for Contemporary Art's Life-Drawing workshop has been rescheduled to Saturday, September 9.

Dream Machine, the interactive, tech-inspired art fair hosted by Bambull Black, has been postponed until a later undecided date.

EARLIER

Life X 3, this Sunday's play at the Dirt Dogs Theatre Company, has been canceled.

This weekend's 24th Annual TransCanda Theater District Opera Open House, a free festival at venues throughout Houston's downtown theater district, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Many of the participating organizations will honor special ticket offers and online and by phone, according to a press release from the Theater District. More information available here. The District will host its 25th annual Open House next year.

The Annual Gala at the Czech Center Museum Houston is tentatively being rescheduled for Saturday, September 9 at Prague Hall near the Museum District.

The Galveston Art Center has also moved its ArtWalk to September 9, and the center itself will be closed for the weekend.

The GAC also moved the opening of three new exhibits to September 9. The three new exhibits are: Houston-based artist Bradley Kerl takes the seemingly mundane from everyday life – like the potted plants in a doctor’s office – and reimagines them on multiple mediums in “Greenhouse.” Angel Oloshove draws inspiration from the land and environment, playing with form and color, in a series of ceramic totems in “The Ocean Never Closes.” And painter Christopher Cascio’s new work referencing quilt patterns and past work utilizing concert wristbands will be on display in “XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX.” Artists’ talks begin at 6:30 p.m., but don’t worry – if you can’t make it, the exhibitions will be on view through October 8.

The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston has also moved its ArtWalk to September 9 to coincide with the GAC event. The Grand has also moved the Off-Broadway production Dixie's Tupperware Party to November 10.

Friday's event with Andrew Gross, author of "The Saboteur," at Murder By the Book bookstore has been canceled with no immediate plans for rescheduling. Tonight's event with authors Patrick Hemstreet and Christopher Brown is still on, but Marina Lostetter will not be attending because her flight was canceled.

The Katy Mills Back to School Family Fun Event at The Galleria has been canceled for this weekend and will be rescheduled for a later, undecided date.

The Made/Unmade Houston: East End Studio Crawl hosted by Architecture Center Houston has been bumped to Saturday, September 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Dream Machine 2017, the tech-themed 15-artist interactive installation scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at The Grove (215 Grove, has been postponed to an undetermined later date, says organizer Hannah Bull.
