Dawn Okoro, “Pressure,” acrylic on canvas, 30x30 inches, 2021
Texas-based artist Dawn Okoro’s work is a study of the black form. Vantablack is one of the darkest substances on earth. The nude figures in her paintings are meant to be expressive, and their poses are inspired by fashion photography. Okoro’s minimal figurative paintings on canvas emphasize space, shape, color, and texture.
VantaBlack is on view April 7-19 at Rice University's Sleepy Cyborg Gallery. For in-person appointment, email [email protected]
