Encore at the Drive-In

HSPVA Friends
HSPVA Friends, the non-profit organization that supports Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Kinder HSPVA), will host Encore at the Drive-In on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at MoonStruck Drive-In. This is the 15th annual Encore event, transformed into a socially-distanced safe alternative to the traditional Encore Luncheon. The event will feature an evening of live and virtual performances by Kinder HSPVA students, and a presentation by 2021 Distinguished Alum Justin Simien (Theatre ’01), who will talk about his work writing and directing for television and film, which includes Dear White People (the film and the Netflix series), Bad Hair, and an upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series about Lando Calrissian. Instead of tables and tickets, guests will purchase parking spaces for their party and be able to socialize in a masked, outdoor setting, or enjoy the show from the privacy of their own car. Underwriters will have access to an outdoor VIP picnic lounge with additional goodies and seating. This year’s event is chaired by M. Kaye DeWalt, Winnell Herron, and Lauren Anderson. Each year, HSPVA Friends’ Encore Event raises vital funds for art area supplies, state-of-the-art technology, specialized teachers, and other essential building blocks required by Kinder HSPVA’s rigorous arts curriculum. The proceeds from the annual Encore event go directly to these needs, supporting the dedicated young artists who work every day to excel in their crafts. [Organizer's description]
