Swanky iPic Theaters in the River Oaks District shopping center offers luxurious, leather-covered seats and a menu with dishes designed by James Beard award-winning chef Sherry Yard. Is it the perfect mesh of a plush movie theater and fine dining? Not quite. Sometimes dishes aren’t like what they sound like on the menu. Buttermilk fried chicken is not bone-in, but instead chicken tenders. They are moist, crunchy and spicy, but chicken tenders nonetheless. Free popcorn is offered to moviegoers, and that’s a better option than beer-cheese popcorn that arrives prepackaged in a plastic bag. The best option is to arrive early and dine in The Tuck Room, where the more ambitious, beautiful platings, such as the spicy tuna on crispy rice and delicate frito misto, can be seen and fully appreciated. (It is very dark in the movie theater.) Regardless, iPic is a wonderful upscale addition to Houston best reserved for times when moviegoers want to feel pampered during their flick.
