Tucked into the Old Sixth Ward Historic District, MECA – which stands for Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts – resides in the old Dow School building located at 1900 Kane St. The community-based nonprofit organization boasts an impressive array of arts and cultural programming, including its renowned Dia De Los Muertos festival. The quirky building and its grounds play host to concerts, block parties, folk-art festivals, visiting performances, and much more. Events are usually extremely affordable in an attempt to make them as available as possible to the community.
