This Galveston bar derives its name from Prohibition days, when medical doctors could legally prescribe alcohol as long as it was for “medicinal purposes only.” No prescriptions are needed these days, so drop on in and try signature cocktails like the Beach Bum, a Texas twist on the Brazilian caipirissima made with Treaty Oak rum, or the 1845 Margarita, which honors Texas independence, made with Republic tequila. Food here includes burgers, pasta, sandwiches, salads, spaghetti and more, with the menu changing seasonally. Medicinal has a generous selection of Texas craft beers as well as liquors made in the Lone Star State, and feel free to bring along your four-legged friends so you can both enjoy the pet-friendly patio.
