Mockingbird Bistro is a perfect place to indulge in either the fancy or the casual, like a big fat steak with french fries and an earthy Rhône red wine or a upscale hamburger and a cold beer. The American-Mediterranean menu doesn't try to wow with cleverness, but the quality ingredients elevates simple dishes to unexpected heights. The medieval decor doesn't exactly match the spirit of the restaurant, but it's a welcome breath of funkiness in a neighborhood of identical River Oaks townhomes. Don’t miss the restaurant’s outstanding happy hour. It’s a favorite of locals thanks to its reasonably-priced fizzy drinks and wines alongside small bites ranging from housemade pork sausage to mac and cheese. Make sure to at least occasionally sit at the bar for the happy hour burger, a Kobe beef beauty packed with Stilton blue and bacon jam.
