In business for more than a half-century, this longstanding fast-food joint has long argued for the principle that size matters. Founded in Corpus Christi, Texas, and still family-owned and operated, Whataburger is still perhaps best known for its big, toasted five-inch bun, a creation founder Harmon Dobson came up with because he wanted to sell a burger it "took two hands to hold." The chain has dialed back the machismo a bit since Dobson's day, and now features a "550 Calories or Less Menu," anchored by an Apple and Cranberry Chicken Salad made with romaine lettuce, dried cranberries, fresh apples and shredded cheddar cheese, as well as a list of sandwiches like the Grilled Chicken Melt, topped with grilled onions, poblano and red bell peppers. Favorite standbys like the Grilled Cheese on Texas Toast remain, however. Find Whataburger in Houston on Voice Places.
