Cactus Music must be running a shuttle between there and McGonigel's Mucky Duck this weekend, or they ought to. Tonight at the Duck, perennial Houston singer-songwriter Jack Saunders releases his new album, the chiming, reflective A Real Good Place to Start. Tomorrow on Norfolk, Ray Wylie Hubbard growls through his new The Grifter's Hymnal. Both men stop by Cactus Saturday, Saunders at 1 p.m. and Hubbard at 4 p.m.. For good measure, Houston's Funky Mustard salutes their own new CD, Rebeluzion, to close out the day at 6 p.m.

Houston native Sarah Sharp, voice of Austin '30s/'40s swing cats the Jitterbug Vipers, goes the folk-pop route (with a hint of jazz) with a solo gig Saturday outside on the patio of Natachee's Supper & Punch. 7 p.m.

Nation of Ulysses were once peers with Ian MacKaye and Fugazi in the late-'80s D.C., before Ian Svenonius and his mates took on a much more mod-ish tilt in the Make-Up, falling in love with soul and R&B 45s but still playing like a punk rock band. Svenonius brings his latest group Chain & the Gang to the new Walter's Saturday with two of Houston's better post-punk artists themselves, the Wiggins and Balaclavas. The Fistful of Soul DJs spin all night between sets too. $8.
