The brand-new BBVA Compass Stadium, the home of the Houston Dynamo and TSU football Tigers, will have to wait a little longer for its first concert. Pop-country duo Sugarland has canceled its scheduled August 26 show at BBVA due to the ever-ambiguous "scheduling conflict," the stadium announced late Monday afternoon.
Tickets bought by credit card will be refunded within seven to ten business days, and those bought in person should be brought back to the BBVA box office.
The rest of Sugarland's current "In the Hands of the Fans" tour seems to be going as scheduled. All of the band's other tour dates -- including this one, in fact -- are still listed on their Web site.
However, the scheduling conflict may have something to do with the ABC music series Duets, a Voice-style competition in which Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles is one of the judges. The summer series, now in its second season, premiered last week, making the BBVA show some time around the Duets finale.
No other musical events are currently scheduled for the AEG-owned venue.
"We knew the band was planning to add tour dates and between their schedule and ours, which is pretty tight between soccer and TSU football in the fall," says BBVA Director of PR, Marketing & Booking Gina Rotolo, so "we were unable to reschedule this show."
However, she adds, "we are working on several other things at this time and hope to make announcements very soon."
