Best Bar: Eight Row Flint

Choosing one single best bar in a city blessed with diverse options filled with fascinating people is such a daunting task. It was almost too much for us, friends, and meant Uber-ing all over Houston, night after night, month after month, to find that one special place. So, perhaps we cheated a bit this season by selecting Eight Row Flint as the city’s best overall bar, a double-cross because of the bar’s expertly situated twin locations.

Part of the Agricole Hospitality empire, which includes hailed bars like Lightnin’s Good Times and EZ’s Liquor Lounge, Eight Row Flint’s locales are known for their whiskey, tequila, beer and taco offerings. They’ve established themselves in two of this town’s heaviest-drinking (read: most experienced and highly knowledgeable) neighborhoods, the Heights and the East End. The former is a quaintly converted gas station and the latter overlooks the Metro Rail and has a stunning rooftop view of the city skyline and they’re both blessed with staff that knows what it’s doing prepping whiskey-forward (Heights) and tequila-tinged (East End) cocktails, along with dozens of alternate drink options and a bunch of delicious food. They boast multiple drink special nights and exude an “everyone’s welcomed” vibe. Each version stands on its own but the real pros (read: most experienced and highly knowledgeable) can visit both in one evening to make the night twice as nice.
