Best Live Music Venue – Medium: 713 Music Hall
The reasons we love 713 Music Hall were evident at a single show we recently attended. The classic Mexican rock band Molotov (hey, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame voters – how about these guys???) was playing Houston and 713 hosted. Standing in line for a tasty, well-mixed margarita (there were micheladas and palomas, too, to drink appropriately in honor of the headliner), we overheard two show-goers gleefully relating how they’d had to drive to a rock bar outside of city limits to see the band on previous runs. Finally, they were getting to see one of their favorite acts in downtown Houston, near an eclectic array of restaurants and bars (including those in the adjacent food court at The POST) for pre- and post-show fun.
They were seeing the band in a state-of-the-art facility, one large enough to accommodate the band and their fans but with an air of intimacy, too. This night (maybe because the fans were a little older, there to celebrate an act with 30 years under its belt) the typical general admission standing room only blueprint gave way to rows and rows of seats, showing off 713’s versatility. You can do a lot in that space for fans and 713 Music Hall knows that and tailors its evenings to the expected clientele. It might seem like a little thing, to be able to order a michelada and have a seat (trust us, folks were still moshing), but those little things make the concert experience better. Attention to the details makes us feel loved and not like just another ticket stub. 713 Music Hall does that better than lots of venues of any size around town.
