Britney Spears

What a long, strange trip it has been for Britney Spears and her peanut-gallery observers since 1999's "...Baby One More Time." We've seen the Louisianan starlet pinball between industrial-strength jailbait, scorched-earth party girl, softcore music-video vixen, barefoot-and-pregnant hausfrau, canopy-wielding, bald, crying maniac, and back to pop superstar in a comparatively short 12-year span. Obviously this has all been more than enough to sell albums, tickets, downloads and magazines, while in the process pushing Web sites like Perez Hilton's into the general pop landscape. It's fun to look back and remember when Spears was supposed to be the next Madonna, and not the cautionary tale she is today. She seems to have carved out her own "survivor" image and is still capable of recording hit albums and singles — especially current confection "Till The World Ends," which was written in part by none other than Gen-Y pop idol Ke$ha, who for sure has read a few passages from the Gospel of Britney.
