Milo Aukerman (The Descendents): Milo Aukerman did in fact go to college, eventually earning a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Milo juggled playing in his band, which plays this year's Free Press Summer Fest, and persuing a career in biochemistry.
Steven Taylor (The Fugs): Allen Ginsberg collaborator and member of The Fugs Steven Taylor received his Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology at Brown University. He teaches a performance course at Wesleyan University.
Daniel Snaith (Caribou):Musician Daniel Snaith, who has performed under the names Caribou, Daphni and Manitoba, received a doctorate in mathematics at the Imperial College of London.
Sterling Morrison (Velvet Underground): Passed guitarist and co-founder of the Velvet Underground Sterling Morrison went to graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin after the band split up. There he completed his Ph.D. in medieval studies.
Morrison supported himself through graduate school piloting tugboats. He eventually earned his captain's licence, so he was a captain too. He became captain of a Houston tugboat, as a matter of fact.
Billy Joel: Singer Billy Joel received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from LIU-Southampton. He now actually holds several honorary doctorates, and he never finished high school.
