For the next couple of weeks, Houston will be visited by a couple of soulful, award-winning Brit chicks. Booming-voiced, zaftig darling — and newly minted Best New Artist 2009 Grammy winner — Adele hits Warehouse Live next week for an already sold-out show. But Tuesday, House of Blues will welcome to its stage the gal that handed that Grammy to her, singer/rapper Estelle. Estelle also won a Grammy that same night: Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her hit "American Boy," which she performed on the telecast with glitter-jacketed partner Kanye West. With a Grammy under her belt and both West and John Legend (whose label brought her second album, Shine, to the U.S. last year) co-signing her Cockney musical talents, it appears that Estelle's continuing mission to get some Stateside love won't be that daunting a task.

KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
