Last week a new app launched called Hi-Art that birthed unto the world a new round of emojis, including musician-based ones. The most notable name was Ghostface Killah because, well, I think we can all agree that we'd rather text a Ghostface emoji than one of Jason Derulo.
This is only the first round, of course, so I can't help but wonder who we're going to get next from Hi-Art. I mean, if this is all the first pack has to offer, they may need some suggestions on where to go next. In the spirit of that, here are five more I'd like to see end up on the app sooner rather than later.
5. David Bowie Given the target audience of emojis, maybe Bowie is a little bit old-school. That being said, hipsters fucking love Bowie, even if they don't realize that famous image of him with the lightning bolt across his face is actually his Aladdin Sane persona, not Ziggy Stardust.
With all the masks Bowie has worn over the years though, it would be a perfect fit for the app. The Thin White Duke, Aladdin Sane, Ziggy Stardust, hell, they could even throw his goofy ""Dancing in the Street" image on there.
4. GWAR This is a tough choice, of course, because GWAR is just one of many bands with costumes and personas to use on the app. Maybe KISS would be an easier go to choice for this sort of thing, but does KISS really need any more merchandising?
GWAR might only appeal to a small fanbase, but it would be a nice tribute to late front man Dave Brockie AKA Oderus Urungus to immortalize his image in the form of an emoji.
3. Kanye West Saluting a man who has inspired so many memes with his actions and even his facial expressions, this emoji would allow you to display the full spectrum of emotions to your friends with Kanye West's ever-emotive face.
Of course, though, the most necessary of Kanye emojis would have to be his infamous shrug after interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMA's. The image that shocked millions and became an Internet meme would be perfect for any and all moments when you just don't care.
List continues on the next page.
2. Prince This is entirely selfish on my part, but I want my damn Prince emojis. The kids might not get it, but for those of us who have grown up idolizing the Artist, we can't help but wish we could text his infamous symbol.
If nothing else, it would make it a hell of a lot easier to text about his career with all the appropriate nomenclature. That "Artist Formerly Known as Prince" stuff got old about 20 years ago. We have the technology now to represent his nameless symbol in its true form. Make it happen, Hi-Art.
1. Iron Maiden This is a must for any metalhead. No other metal band, maybe no other band period, has had such an iconic mascot as Eddie, and he's appeared in so many different forms and costumes over the years on their album covers that it is a perfect fit for the emoji-art genre.
You could exploit this one for weeks just by installing different versions of Eddie that have popped up over the years. If you go through all the album covers, including singles, Eddie has been and done almost everything. Hi-Art needs to allow us to text every form he's ever appeared in. That is an app I would pay for any day of the week.
