The Houston Press is looking for freelance music writers to grow our ranks. Needed are people who are passionate and knowledgeable about the Houston music scene and are willing to report on it while meeting deadlines.
The pace of the job varies. Concert reviews are due the morning after the performance. Interview and enterprise stories can take a little longer to develop. The ability to write about others rather than navel gazing is crucial. Photography skills are a plus as is the ability to learn the computer software program used in filing a story with us.
If interested, please send 3-5 samples of your best writing (links to the specific stories are fine), two story pitches suitable for the Houston Press, a resume and cover letter about why you believe this is the job for you to: email@example.com
No phone calls please.
Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
