7. Boston, "The Star-Spangled Banner": Yeah, it's Boston. Lead guitarist Tom Scholz shreds away to our national anthem. In honor of classic rock and our classic heroes; here you go.
6. Fleetwood Mac, "Go Your Own Way": The song was a huge success during the late 1970s. Although it describes a break-up between Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, on another level it applies very well to soldiers returning from Vietnam.
5. The Mamas and The Papas, "California Dreaming": Granted, the song may not have much to do about war, directly, but The Mamas and The Papas seduced the ears of many people during the '60s. This song hit No. 4 on the U.S. singles chart in 1966.
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd, "The Last Rebel": Lynyrd Skynyrd brought Southern rock to a new level during the '70s. This song, the title track to the band's 1993 album, is about a patriotic soldier climbing onto his horse for one last ride. If you can't get more American than that, any other well-known Skynyrd song would almost assuredly be a hit among vets: "Free Bird," "Simple Man," "That Smell"... the list could go on.
