In the weeks leading up to the Houston Press Music Awards showcase on Sunday, August 4, Rocks Off will be profiling a handful of performers each day, mostly in their own words - part of the best top-to-bottum lineup the showcase has ever had, in our humble opinion. See the showcase schedule and ticket information at HPMusicAwards.com, and watch Twitter (@hprocksoff) every day until the showcase for your chance to win tickets.
What are you nominated for? Peace! My name is Caretta Bell and I've been nominated in the Best Soul/Funk/R&B category -- yay!
Please list all of your regular band members and what instruments they play. I'm fortunate to know and play with so many talented musicians. The lineup is not set in stone, but unless I'm doing an acoustic set, at minimum, I usually rock with a bassist, keyboardist and drummer.
Describe yourself in four to seven words. Soulful, Sultry, Sexy, Sassy *wink*
Who is your single biggest musical influence and why? God. God blessed me with this gift, and is one of the main reasons I continue on this beautiful grind.
What recordings (if any) do you have readily available? Well, most recently I just got my own Pandora station! So you can check me out there, as well as the usual places like ITunes, Amazon, CDBaby, and new music for download at carettabell.com.
Have you ever been HPMA-nominated before? When and what for? My first HPMA nomination was in 2009 in the Best R&B/Soul/Funk category. Last year I was nominated in the Best Female Vocals, Best Local Music Video for my song/video "Growing Painz," which you can check out on YouTube or my Web site, Best R&B/Soul/Funk and Local Musician of the Year categories.
Where and how often do you perform (publicly) around Houston? It varies but you can usually catch me at least once a month. My performance schedule is updated regularly on my Web site.
What is the next step for you? I released a new single/video last year, "Growing Painz," and fingers crossed will be releasing an EP later this fall. I'm super excited about sharing some new music too!
Finish this sentence: "Houston music is..." Multifaceted, gaining more recognition year after year, and just generally, well, bad azz!
