Juicy J at Warehouse Live, 4/19/2014

Juicy J Warehouse Live April 19, 2014

There is nothing subtle about Juicy J. He doesn't just party, he turns the fuck up. He doesn't just drink, he gets wasted. He doesn't just do drugs, he gets trippy, mayne! About the only thing he doesn't do is say no to ratchet pussy. But above all, this dude entertains at a level that is surpassed by very few, which is his most redemptive quality.

He felt the need to school (and hopefully remind) his fans in the audience of his roots with Three 6 Mafia; considering the crowd's average age, we can see why he felt this was necessary. "I'm not a new artist, Goddammit! I've been doin' this for over 20 years!", he preached. "Now who wanna turn up with me onstage?!"

Looking back at his performance, Juicy comes across as the pied piper of ratchet rap. With Mike Will Made It's hard-hitting beats backing up his hypnotic rhymes, Juicy took total control of his fans, smoking and drinking with them, and inviting the females (and one or two lucky dudes) up to dance around and behind him onstage. The performance is hyper-interactive and energetic, which is why you will never suffer thorough a bad Juicy J show. He makes sure you are having a good time.

His set list Saturday reflected the top crowd favorites, both new and old. "Zip And a Double Cup" announced his intentions for the night, and then the booty music began. The new tracks from 2013's Stay Trippy album, such as "Bandz-a Make Her Dance," "Show Out" "Scholarship" and "Bounce It" belong in the Booty Music Hall of Fame. Strippers, money and drugs dominate the subject matter, all of which is expertly controlled and manipulated by Juicy.

"Please tell me y'all remember this shit, Houston!" Mr. J said before the DJ plays older Three 6 cuts such as "Poppin My Collar," "Sippin On Some Syrup" and "Stay Fly." He would frequently motion to the DJ to cut the sound as he continued the verses a cappella, which showed how, although likely drunk and high, he was still in total command. He didn't miss one word, and the crowd showed their appreciation.

In 2009, Juicy released a mixtape with DJ Scream named Realest Nigga In the Game. We are inclined to agree with that title.

Personal Bias: You say no to ratchet rap shows, Marco T. Can't!

The Crowd: Ratchet. With a side of twerk.

Overheard In the Crowd: "Oh. My. GOD! I hope I never have a daughter who becomes the type to dance onstage at a Juicy J show!"

Random Notebook Dump: "Darkhorse" jams so fucking much!
