After her mostly praised Super Bowl XLVI halftime performance - aside from that whole M.I.A. middle-finger thing - Madonna will perform at Toyota Center on Wednesday, October 24, Live Nation announced this morning.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, February 27, at the usual outlets: livenation.com, toyotacentertix.com, "most" Houston-area Randall's stores and 1-866-4HOUTIX (446-8849).

The tour is designed to promote the singer's album MDNA, scheduled for release March 26 (and not an Ecstasy reference at all, we're sure).

After bypassing Houston for nearly two decades, Madonna performed in November 2008 at Minute Maid Park on the "Sticky & Sweet Tour."

"She did so without turning the affair into a greatest-hits revue - about half the set came from Hard Candy, and there was no 'Papa Don't Preach,' no 'Lucky Star," no 'Express Yourself,'" Rocks Off wrote at the time.

"They weren't missed, mostly because like Madonna herself, nobody stopped moving long enough to notice."

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism.
