The Tontons just released a new video for "Leon," from last year's self-titled CD. The clip was done by Zenfilm, the same production company that does the Live from SugarHill monthly broadcasts (see a little further down). Look for a cameo by SugarHill's Gina Miller and her husband Major acting all Valentine's Day.

Speaking of the quasi-holiday just past, Andrew Karnavas has a new song called "Valentine's Day," from the Runaway Sun singer's forthcoming solo album Film Noir, due in April.

Pretty much every single Houston music blog had something to say this weekend about the lineup for the 2010 Free Press Summerfest. MCM is ecstatic about the headliners, The Flaming Lips, who haven't played Houston in almost a decade. MCM is from Oklahoma and hasn't seen The Lips since 1993, when she was less-than-legal and they were playing in Oklahoma City parks and dingy warehouses. It's gonna rock, to be sure. The Lips will be arguably the biggest band to perform at an indie festival in Houston, which has the potential to heighten our profile as a first-class music city. So come June, let's give them a warm welcome. Tickets are on sale now.

When Fans Attack: A Rocks Off reader shares the story of one brave audience member at Sō Percussion's Saturday night show who "forcibly ejected a chatty couple in the wings". Good for him. If more disgruntled audience members would do the same we might actully be able to enjoy some shows around here. BTW, MCM had to ask a chatty couple behind her at the recent Girls show at Walter's to STFU, and they were quite humble and kind about it. On an unrelated note, Matt Brownlie (of Groceries, Bring Back the Guns and maybe now Something Fierce) called Sō Percussion's performance "FUCKING AWESOME".

Wait a sec... Rocks Off contributor Jef With One F has a book out? It's about his life as a member of the Black Math Experiment. If you've read it, the dude needs some positive feedback on Amazon. So far he's got nothin'.

Raquel Refuerzo, who's from Houston, covers Gwen Stefani's "Cool," and kinda sings better than Stefani does.

Beyoncé has been named "official face" of the "Fashion for Haiti" charity T-shirt, which is available online today, retails for $25 and is ugly as hell. You can get the T-shirt online, or you can not be a selfish bastard and just donate a quarter-Benjamin to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund without expecting something in return.

Kristine Mills, voted Best female Vocalist in Houston Press' 2009 Best of Houston awards, will perform Thursday at 13 Celsius in a fundraiser for the Youth Development Center's literacy programs.

Two awards to talk about: Matt Harlan's album, Tips & Compliments, has been nominated for Album of the Year in the 2010 Texas Music Awards, and The Texas Cultural Trust has issued its call for nominations for the 2011 Texas Medal of Arts Awards, a biennial celebration celebrating the state's artists, entertainers and art patrons. Finally, KPFT is having a T-shirt designing contest in honor of the station's 40th anniversary. Vote for your favorite design, or submit your own, at the link. For inspiration, MCM would like to point out this logo-design contest for New York/New Jersey freeform radio station WFMU. This design was later made into a WFMU T-shirt.
