Here's a plethora of remembrances for Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous, who committed suicide over the weekend. Nonalignment Pact writes about seeing the bandat Rudyards in 1999. Andrew Dansby of 29-95 writes about his favorite Sparklehorse album. And Gilbert Alfaro of Spain Colored Orange sent MCM a note this morning:
"Mark Linkous was one of my favorite song writers.... I had a hard time sleeping so I covered, 'It's A Wonderful Life.'"

Houston Calling continues its previews of South-by-bound Houston bands with Ceeplus Bad Knives and Hayes Carll.

The Wild Moccasins' new album is going to be called Skin Collision Past. Cody Swann tells us the band will be leaving for tour starting April 1 with a show at Walter's and return May 21 for the record-release party. Look for some new tracks online soon.
Also now on tour, Roky Moon & BOLT. Marc Brubaker at Houstonist introduces you to them and shares some songs. Side note to MCM's friends in Oklahoma - GO SEE THIS BAND. They'll be there March 18 before wrapping their tour up at SXSW.

The genii behind Action Town Records have a new blog, Blank Labels, featuring "photos of records and record culture, focusing on blank-label reggae 45s, Northern Soul and interesting ephemera." It's very sexy. You can even submit your own images and stories.
Just in time for warmer climes, Miller Outdoor Theatre has installed a brand-new sound system and will be kicking its Saturday with local British Invasion-ites The Fab Five. The show is free and very informal - the concession stand won't even be open, so BYOB. Starts at 7 p.m.
Saxophonist Matana Roberts, who was here to perform thanks to Nameless Sound, admits to falling in love with Houston in spite of herself, though she gets a few details wrong - like the fact that Kennedy assassination was in Dallas, not Houston.
Blues Brother/funny Canadian Dan Aykroyd will be the Grand Marshal of the 2010 Art Car Parade, reports Culturemap. Is this the tradeoff we get for $8 Lone Stars at House of Blues? If so, MCM's totally down!

Existentialist unsigned rockers Reckless Endeavor have posted some new songs on their Myspace and are in the studio these days. After 10 years of playing together, they're working on their first EP, due out this summer.
