Meet the 2012 HPMA Showcase Nominees: Steve Krase & the In Crowd

Rocks Off reached out to the artists playing this year's Houston Press Music Awards showcase Sunday, August 5, and asked them to introduce themselves. Here's what they sent back.

Catch up with the other showcase nominees and see the rest of our HPMA coverage

Rocks Off: When and where was your first gig in Houston, and how did it go?

Steve Krase: Our first gig was competing in the 2006 International Blues Challenge which we ended up winning and representing Houston in the Finals in Memphis!

RO: What Houston-area venues do you play most often?

SK: The Big Easy, The Shakespeare Pub and Capone's.

RO: How often do you play in the area?

SK: At least two to three times per month.

RO: Describe your sound in eight words or less.

SK: Rockin' blues madness that you can dance to.

RO: How did you come up with your name?

SK: From the song "The In Crowd" an old jazz number redone by Bryan Ferry. Tongue in cheek of course, because we're not really that cool.

RO: Where would you like yourself or your band to be in one year? Ten years? Forty?

SK: In one year, recording great original music. In ten years, steadily touring. In 40? Dead.

RO: What is one thing you'd like to do (as a musician) before you pack it in?

SK: Get my picture on the cover of the Houston Press.

Why not be a pal and check out Steve Krase and his crew on Facebook? If you had a Facebook page he would look at yours.

Steve Krase & The In Crowd plays the HPMA showcase 5 p.m. Sunday, August 5 at Phul Court Sports Bar, 1311 Leeland.
