Meet the 2012 HPMA Showcase Nominees: Venomous Maximus

Rocks Off reached out to the artists playing this year's Houston Press Music Awards showcase Sunday, August 5, and asked them to introduce themselves. Here's what they sent back.

Catch up with the other showcase nominees and see the rest of our HPMA coverage

Rocks Off: When and where was your first gig in Houston, and how did it go?

Venomous Maximus: It was with Torche at the Meridian a couple years ago. It was bad.

RO: What Houston-area venues do you play most often?

VM: Rudyard's in Montrose and Fitzgerald's in the Heights.

RO: How often do you play in the area?

VM: Way too much.

RO: Describe your sound in eight words or less.

VM: Dark, Chrome, Leather, Snuff, Smoke, Sweat, Death, Apparitions.

RO: How did you come up with your name?

VM: From tattoo history, look it up. Our first idea was Animal Mother. (or you know, this --ed.)

RO: Where would you like yourself or your band to be in one year? Ten years? Forty?

VM: More than likely dead, with our faces tattooed on trashy people's arms, after a bit of rehab, maybe even Europe.

RO: What is one thing you'd like to do (as a musician) before you pack it in?

VM: All of the above.

Hail the dark lords in Venomous Maximus on their demented Facebook page, their demonic Twitter account, and their bone-crushing Bandcamp site.

Venomous Maximus plays the HPMA showcase 7 p.m. Sunday, August 5, at the Warehouse Live Studio, 813 St. Emanuel.
