As a frequent and mostly satisfied mass-transit commuter ourselves, Rocks Off has been recommending those of you headed to our Best of Houston® BestFest this weekend take the MetroRail to the McGowen stop.
It would have been nice, but we just found out Metro will suspend its rail service this weekend as one of its periodic "Scheduled Service Interruptions" to allow construction of a bridge for Texas Children's Hospital. The trains stop running at 9 p.m. Friday and resume at 5 a.m. Monday.
Nice timing, huh? Still, it's not the end of the world as we know it. (Sorry, we're still bummed over R.E.M.) Metro will operate its usual Rail Shuttle bus route (No. 700) this weekend. The Rail Shuttle follows the same route (pretty much), runs more frequently than the trains and costs the same, except the buses don't take credit cards.
But since more you of you may be driving now, allow Rocks Off to lay out your best parking options.

Support Our Journalism
- BestFest sponsor Houston Community College has graciously donated the parking lots of its Central Campus at Holman and San Jacinto for festival parking. The campus is less than a mile from the superblock, and about three blocks from the closest Rail Shuttle stop. See map above.
- The paid lots at Main and Holman, near the Continental Club, will run you two or three bucks for all-day parking... until they fill up.
- You can always take your chances closer in, on the streets of Midtown, but remember that area is the natural habitat for some of the city's most voracious tow-truck vultures.
Good luck out there. Hope this helps. See you at the festival.
