Tick-tock, Clarice HPMA nominees. As many of you hopefully found out yesterday, Matt & Kim and Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights will be our special guests at this year's Houston Press Music Awards showcase all along Washington Avenue Saturday, August 7. Tickets go on sale next Friday at houstonpress.com. Just thought we'd mention that again, mostly because a) we want all of you to show up; and b) we need some copy to sandwich around that pretty lady to your right.

Anyhow, the number of nominees who have now sent in their MP3s keeps climbing a little more each day. Hell, we figure we may have about half of them in now. But we could always use more, so the rest of you please stop dragging your feet and send them to chris.gray@houstonpress.com. You'll be glad you did.

So today, just in time for the July 4 weekend, we are proud to bring you five more. Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
