Daniel Bernard Roumain, known as DBR, is a violinist and band-leader with a vision, to blend classical music with modern funk music, exploring when and how they meet. Along with his group, the multi-talented Mission, DBR tours the world bringing fans a surprisingly cohesive sound. He explains it this way:
"It seems like a varied group, but when you break it down we have a traditional string quartet, with two violins, viola and cello, but they're plugged in which allows them to use different effects and sound processors. On the other side of the stage there's a funk band with a drum kit, bass, keyboards. Along with that there's a DJ. I'm in the middle of all that. Two four piece ensembles come together to form DBR and the Mission. My music is essentially about beats and strings. It's also about combining fundamental ideas of classical music with the fundamental ideas of rap, hip-hop and rock music."
