Moments ago the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo released its scheduled entertainers for its three-week 2014 run March 4-23 at Reliant Stadium. Heading up the lineup are country A-listers Florida Georgia Line, Reba, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Eli Young Band, The Band Perry, Jake Owen, Chris Young and the Zac Brown Band.
Non-country acts include Robin Thicke, Maroon 5, Selena Gomez, REO Speedwagon, Usher on Black Heritage Day (March 7) and a Grupo Pesado/Banda MS double bill at Go Tejano Day, scheduled for March 16. A complete schedule is available at rodeohouston.com.
Making their RodeoHouston debuts are FGL (March 19), Hunter Hayes (March 15) and Easton Corbin (March 21). This will be Paisley's eighth rodeo, Reba's nineteenth(!) and Aldean's fifth in a row.
The rodeo hopes this year's lineup helps it continue its upward trend in attendance, which may be a bit of an understatement. In 2013 it set new overall records for both overall and RodeoHouston attendance with approximately 2.5 and 1.3 million people, respectively. Overall attendance was up some 250,000 people, and RodeoHouston attendance (the events taking place in Reliant Stadium, including concerts), was up 25,000 from 2012. Concert-wise, five shows from 2013 are now at the top of the all-time attendance list: Go Tejano Day, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Pitbull and Bruno Mars, each drawing more than 75,000 paid customers to Reliant Stadium.
Last week it released the entertainers scheduled to appear at the late-night Hideout tent, featuring local and regional traditional-minded country artists such as Cody Johnson, Jamie Richards, Max Stallings, Crooks, Mike & the Moonpies, Junior Gordon and Texas Renegade Band. Justin Van Sant, the current HPMA Best Country Act, plays Saturday, March 22. A full Hideout calendar is right over here.
