Studio Magick Black

I have no idea what the name means, but if the music on Studio Magick Black's MySpace site offers any clue to what these local rockers have in mind, it has something to do with riff-heavy rock of the monolithic, boulder-rolling-down-a-mountain, amps-to-11 kind. Think Blue Cheer jamming with Skynyrd, or Zappa when he'd get a riff stuck in his head and wouldn't let it go. Austin's Derty Bird has been compared to Arc Angels — now there's some hype to live up to — and Goldcure has that angst-ridden, Ryan Adams-y, sensitive-guy signature that should put them in high demand on the sorority circuit. An interesting bill of rising young bands for a slow H-town Thursday night.
