The Rocks Off 100: Felipe Galvan of Los Skarnales

Welcome to the Rocks Off 100, our portrait gallery of the most compelling profiles and personalities in the far-flung Houston music community -- a lot more than just musicians, but of course they're in there, too. See the entire Rocks Off 100 at this link.

Los Skarnales front man Felipe Galvan is quite the character. With his throwback outfits, Latin lingo and overall vivacious personality, he has been winning the hearts of music fans in Houston for almost 20 years. Whether he's playing a small club or large outdoor festival, Galvan performs with an unrivaled emotion and energy that immediately make you a fan. This is his story:

Who are you/what is your background (personal and music-wise): "I'm a working-class, happy father of three beautiful daughters ( Marisa, Sofia and Juliet ), and lead singer of Los Skarnales."

Home Base (where do you practice/work/perform): "We practice at Francisco Studios, and perform at FItzgerald's, The Continental Club, House of Blues, Warehouse Live, all over. My guitar player Jose and I (and one other guy) started the band in late 1993. We were called Desorden back then. We were a three-piece Spanish punk band, and I played the drums and sang! (laughs). Good times! Chale...that's a long time, ese!"

Why do you stay in Houston: "Versatility -- there's something for everybody."

War Story (a good one): "No war story. I'll be happy when [the real war is] over with."

Music Scene Pet Peeve: "Bands talking shit about other bands instead of uniting."
