Things to Do This Weekend If You're (Almost) Broke

Friday Newly crowned Best Indie Rock winners Spain Colored Orange bring their florid psych-pop to the Contemporary Arts Museum's monthly Steel Lounge Underground, with Gracie Chavez and a showdown between Sasha Braverman and Henry Chow. 8 p.m., free. Houston industrial fiend Mike Terror menaces at under-new-management Alief rocker refuge The Blue Door (11124 Westheimer) with DJ Naika Whisperwish. 8 p.m., $8. Sing along with the common people - or just watch them dance - at Boondocks' '90s dance party with Austin DJs Doneski and Orion. Tyagaraja, whom you may remember as the man behind Million Year Dance, plays a free show at Block 7 Wine Company, 720 Shepherd (at Washington). 8 p.m. Ambient rockers Calm Blue Sea float in from Austin to join Caddywhompus and Hat Talk at Rudyard's. French-twisted L.A. pop-rockers Carney stop by Walter's on Washington with Houston tunesmith Chase Hamblin. Saturday This week's free honky-tonk matinee at the Continental Club's Pachinko Hut is Houston's Steven Reynolds Band. The Tontons continue their CD-release spree of shows with a 3:30 p.m. instore at Cactus Music. Also at Cactus, artist Robin Katchantones' "Face the Music" exhibit opens with a 7 p.m. reception in the Record Ranch with music from the Dollyrockers and, as always, free refreshments from St. Arnold's. Take a step back into Houston's punk-rock past and help raise money for ex-Plimsouls frontman Peter Case at the Mink with the MyDolls, Hickoids and AK-47. Come early for the punk rock flea market from 12-6 p.m. with records, posters, zines and more. It's Dirty Honey time again at Boondocks, so make it funky. No cover. Austin space-rock stalwarts ST-37 blast off at Rudz with Linus Pauling Quartet and Giant Princess. That ought to keep you busy. Have fun!
