Late last year, we had the opportunity to sit down with a group of middle-school kids who turned out to be way less annoying than we had anticipated. The kids in question were part of Pin Oak's Stage Band class, an ancillary subject offered at the exemplary junior high. Essentially, the purpose of the class is to teach kids how to be part of a band (you can read more about it here) and, in all seriousness, is something way more schools should think about instituting into their curriculum. At the time, Pin Oak was the only school in the city that offered Stage Band. Though clearly talented, when we first met the group they were still experiencing the growing pains all bands do. Although their "Louie Louie" was rather good. Now, nearly seven months later, they're basically a tiny version of the Rolling Stones - with the exception of Keith Richards' substance abuse, we assume - and will be in full force at 7 p.m. tonight at Pin Oak Middle School (4601 Glenmont, Bellaire). We'd like to wish the kids best of luck in their show, and look forward to one day attempting to borrow money from any and all members after they become world famous.
