Update: This show was cancelled, but Room 101 plays Fitzgerald's Feb. 13.

No sooner than Rocks Off's good friend (and hella photographer) Rosa Guerrero rhapsodized about the River Oaks Theater's occasional (but always loud) music shows comes word that Houston/Chicago noisemaker Room 101 has a gig there tonight. Expect to hear the two new songs the enigmatic one-man band - probably the best-prepared musician for a chemical attack ever - just posted to his MySpace page, "New Rome" and "122 Hours of Fear" (a cover of first-wave California punks the Screamers), as well as selections from his 7-inch EP "Contemporary Programming," which Room 101 says is being pressed now and should be ready in about a month. Earplugs highly recommended. - Chris Gray

8 p.m. tonight at the River Oaks Theater, 2009 W. Gray, 713-866-8881.

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
