Remember when those sweet, sweet jamz were full of rhymes about gettin' down with the underground? The '80s were the best, man.
That's why we're here. We dig old-school jamz, you dig old-school jamz, and we want you to have a festive Throwback Thursday. What better way to do that then to jam out with Shannon? That's right; she's on here. But even if we're drooling over her, ultimately it's all about you, baby.
Well, you and Sir Humpty, anyway.
10. "Upside Down," Diana Ross Oh, Ms. Ross. She was the reigning queen of '80s dance music, at least for a little while, thanks to this disco-tinged hit. "Upside Down" made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980, where it stayed for a month or so. But it's lasted much longer in our disco-happy-hearts.
9. "It Takes Two," Rob Base and DJ EZ-Rock Whoo! Yeah! Whoo! Yeah!
Everyone knows this jam, and everyone loves it. We weren't sure the duo could get any better until we saw them in those emerald green tracksuits.
8. "Let The Music Play," Shannon Shannon basically defined the '80s. Well, not really, but "Let The Music Play" is so totally '80s and danceable that she should have. It topped of the dance charts in '83 and basically kickstarted the the dance-pop era. So you can also blame Shannon for all the horrible stuff that came after.
7. "Pump Up The Jam," Technotronic This little '80s house song has some kind of street cred. It was the first of its kind to bust onto the American pop charts, and killed it in the UK too, reaching all the way to No. 2. Worldwide -- that's Technotronic.
6. "All Night Long," Lionel Richie Come on. It's Lionel Richie. Fiesta! Forever! All night long! This jam is still awesome, and we really don't need to validate it any more than that.
5. "Rhythm of the Night," DeBarge This 1985 hit is the biggest song DeBarge ever recorded, which is cool, because it's also the best. DeBarge was already well-known for their stream of popular R&B ballads when this jam hit the airwaves, and immediately became a staple of '80s dance music.
But "Rhythm of the Night" is also widely credited with jump-starting the career of songwriter Diane Warren, who went on to write monster ballads like "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" for Aerosmith and "How Do I Live" for LeAnn Rimes. So from the ashes of "Rhythm of the Night" sprung many a sad love song. Go figure.
