UPDATE (12:30 p.m.): After further research, according to the Sigur Ros itinerary at popplagid.com, it appears they played Verizon Wireless Theater in February 2006 and March 2003.
Sigur Ros, Iceland's most popular musical export apart from Bjork, will play their first Houston show in seven years make their Houston debut on April 9, 2013 at Bayou Music Center, according to the trio's publicists Press Here. The trio's biggest North American trek to date also includes a date at Madison Square Garden (wow) and the 2013 Coachella Festival. Guess it's already time for that again.

Last Night: Jonsi at Verizon Wireless Theater (October 27, 2010)
Jonsi, more or less Sigur Ros' front man, came to the then-Verizon Wireless Theater in October 2010, a show our reviewer said was "transcendent." This time Houston will get the full Sigur Ros experience, which, judging by the photos of their stage show above, looks pretty spectacular.
Sigur Ros, which began in 1994 in the Icelandic capital of Rekyjavik, and began accumulating a near-religious cult following after their album Ágætis Byrjun topped many critics' best-of lists in 1999. Most recently heard on this year's Valtari, their music is an immersive mixture of post-rock, classical, drone and electronica, with many lyrics sung in their own made-up language dubbed "Hopelandic."
The announcement came from Sigur Ros' publicists, Press Here, so ticket information is still TBD, but a fan presale on their Web site -- which is inconveniently down at the moment -- is scheduled for this Wednesday (November 14), and then tickets are expected to go on sale to the public Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned and we'll let you know.
