Figured I'd break our weekly survey up into two posts and stretch it out a bit. First up, local indie-folk duo Papermoons are already drawing raves for their full-length debut New Tales. Better catch tonight's release show at the Mink, because they're not long for this city. Where have we heard that before?

Up the block, Austin's Chili Cold Blood spices up the Continental Club with psychobilly stalwarts Flame Trick Subs. "See That Woman"? (She's hard to miss.):

Never-say-die punks 30FootFall storm Meridian with Morgue City and a bunch of other bands. Happy birthday, Floyd! (This is the first installment of a 13-part YouTube video from a 30FF Fitz's show in 2006.)

And, finally, Austin's Derailers go Buck (Owens) wild at the Armadillo Palace:

Check back tomorrow for your Saturday and Sunday fix. - Chris Gray

Keep the Houston Press Free... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Houston with no paywalls.
